How Well Has the American Diet Served Me?

I ate like a garbage disposal for a long time.

It wasn’t just the junk food. It was the food that was supposed to be healthy. The low fat fad that pushed over processed sugar bombs into our bodies. Wonder why diabetes is so high now?

I accepted it. Just like millions of others.

My body started telling a different story. The lack of energy, the anxiety, the gut issues…it all started mounting. The eye opener was my mother’s health issues. Her gut was wrecked. I didn’t know gluten intolerance was a thing. What else didn’t I know? That’s where I started uncovering the truth.

When you start pulling the thread it doesn’t stop.

Milk does a body good they told us. What they left out is that more than half the world has some degree of lactose intolerance. The slogan wasn’t written but a doctor or researcher. It was written by someone who benefitted from the sale of milk. The food pyramid wasn’t drawn up by nutritionists. It was drawn up by someone who wanted to sell more grain. Breakfast was designed by a man trying to sell more pork in the 1920’s.

The information is out there. It’s not a secret anymore. It’s just that marketing is louder than the science and the politics protect the marketing.

What changed when I started to pay attention? More energy. Less anxiety. Sharper brain. All from removing things from my diet that shouldn’t have been there.

I’m not a doctor or nutritionist. I don’t understand all the science behind most of this. What I am though…is better now than I was before I started paying attention to what I put in my body.

Politics, propaganda, and marketing play a bigger role in your diet than the science does. That’s not conspiracy. That’s business.

To answer my own question, I would say the American diet hasn’t served me and it seems like it hasn’t served most everyday Americans. Just look at the health data.

The real question is, who does it actually serve?

Mediocrity is treason!
